About the Bio Park Garden

The Bangalore University Bio-park mainly aims at the conservation of native species. Apart from this it has lot of scope for research, which helps the students and scholars to carry out research in various aspects of biodiversity.

THE TOTAL BIO-DIVERSITY PROJECT IS RENAMED AS BANGALORE BIO-PARK AND IT IS CLASSIFIED AS UNDER

  • Geographically in to 9 sectors

  • Period of the project in to 5 Phases

  • The segments of the Bio-park are into 16 Functional Garden

  • PUBLIC UTILITY

  • Arboriculture, avenue trees, cluster trees, arboretums.

  • Trees and their management for enhancing beauty and aesthetics of the campus.

  • Conservation of plants by identifying heritage trees

  • Research project funded by DBT.


 

CONCEPTS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE BIO-DIVERSITY PARK

  • Soil and water conversation

  • Rainwater harvesting

  • Planting of endangered plant species

  • Planting Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

  • Improvement of Environment and Ecology of the Campus

  • Building up and conservation of Fauna such as birds, insects, rodents, reptiles etc.

  • Research on Eco-utility projects

  • Development of ancient smrithivanas

THE 9 Sectors...

The native species were planted in 6 sectors  viz., sector 1, 2, 3,4, 5 and 8. The study of biocapsules (Biodiversity sectors)  of Bangalore University Campus aims at spreading the awareness among the students and citizens that life, health, happiness and peace all are interconnected prvided generously by nature. So let's become responsible citizens to protect Mother Earth and to protect future generations and ourselves.
Sector 1: The first sector is called as Evergreen Forest Sector and spreads across 100 acres of the park land (Bio-park part_1).
Sector 2: The second sector is called Madhuvana Sector (Orchard Capsule) which contains fruit plantation (Biopark part_2, Biopark part_3
, Biopark part_6, and Biopark part_14).
Sector 3: Sector four contains Medicinal plants and is known as Sanjeevini Vana (Bio-park part_2 and Bio-park part_3).
Sector 4: Sector there is Charaka Vana and Shushruta Vana Sector and it contains Ayurvedic plants (Bio-park part_4).

Sector 5: Intense Planting (Dense Forest- Biopark part_7, Biopark part_10, Biopark part_13)

Sector 6: Miyawaki Forest (Biopark part_15)
Sector 7: Wetland - Bamboo Valley (between Biopark part_2 and Biopark part_3)

Sector 8: This is called Sahyadri Vana (Biopark part_3, Biopark part_8, Biopark part_11,and Biopark part_16).​

Sector 9: Mixed forest (Biopark part_1, Biopark part_2, Bio-park part_3, and Bio-park part_4)

Quadrants

Twenty one Quadrants have been made in the Jnanabharathi campus. Each Quadrants measures  10sq.mtrs. Sand paths have been created around each quadrant.  Systematic observation of movements of different creatures through the sand paths are monitored (Bio-park part_1).
